private tutor for maths and science in London
I’m an experienced science and maths tutor with a master’s degree from the University of Oxford.
I also have experience preparing students for the 11+/13+ entrance exams, helping them to access the best possible secondary schooling.
My students consistently exceed expectations and go on to enjoy great academic success.
Tutees quickly begin to take great strides in both confidence and competence as we work together.
Throughout school I achieved straight-“As” and was placed in the “top” sets. I discovered a passion for science and, luckily, also a knack for it. I set my sights high and was accepted into the Master of Biochemistry programme at Oxford. Qualifying required me to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as well as a solid understanding of their mathematical underpinnings.
I have always been fascinated by the principles that make up the world around us. I channel my fascination and enthusiasm into tutorials that are engaging and energising. Through this, I support and guide students towards the highest possible achievements.
My first goal is to help students develop an intuition for each subject so that correct answers come reflexively. My second goal is to help them evolve strategies for thinking a problem through when the answer isn’t so apparent. This sort of exceptionally deep learning routinely delivers excellent grades.
I aim to identify something in each subject that really resonates with my students. From there I can use their natural curiosity to grow a long-lasting excitement and interest for Maths and Science. Confidence and motivation to explore the further reaches of the curriculum follow as a matter of course. Over time, tutorials become ideally tailored and sensitive to each student’s needs.
I teach all abilities, and I have specific experience with dyslexic and dyspraxic learners.
I find the whole process of tutoring – from overcoming those first learning obstacles to hearing about outstanding exam results – incredibly rewarding. As a particularly erudite and quotable 20th century physicist called Richard Feynman put it: "when one teaches, two learn."
My current availability means that I’m looking to hold tutorials after school hours on Mondays and Tuesdays and on Saturday mornings. To arrange your first session, and for information about my hourly rate, please contact me using the details below.
I offer the choice of conducting tutorials at your home or remotely via Skype. I am happy to arrange and cover the cost of travel to anywhere within 30-45 minutes of Kennington Park.
If you find that the arrangements suggested above are unworkable, please let me know and I will do my best to meet your requirements.
